Why hydrogen purity matters

Published · Updated

Quick summary

Hydrogen purity is the measured share of hydrogen in the gas a machine actually delivers, and it matters because it is the one specification that can be independently verified rather than asserted.

  • Realistic contaminants are carried-over oxygen, water vapour and material shed by low-quality electrodes or fittings.
  • PEM/SPE separation plus purified feed water is what makes a stated purity figure achievable and repeatable.
  • Our inhalation systems are independently purity-tested by a third-party laboratory (QTT LH2025050017 and LH2025050018).

Purity and flow are different questions

Flow rate answers “how much gas”. Purity answers “gas of what”. A high flow figure attached to an unspecified gas composition is an incomplete specification, and the two numbers are routinely blurred in listings.

For inhalation the composition question is the one buyers should ask first, because it is the one that determines whether two flow figures can be compared at all.

What ends up in the stream

In a mixed-gas design, oxygen is present by design. In any design, water vapour is present and is normally managed with a humidifier and moisture handling. Contaminants can also come from feed water, from electrolyte carryover in alkaline designs, and from materials in the gas path.

A PEM/SPE cell removes the electrolyte carryover route entirely and keeps oxygen on the other side of the membrane. That is the structural part of purity.

Verification is the other half

Structure makes purity possible; measurement demonstrates it. Our inhalation systems have been independently purity-tested by a third-party laboratory, documented in QTT reports LH2025050017 and LH2025050018.

When comparing brands, look for a named laboratory, a report reference and a stated method. A percentage with no provenance is a marketing number.

Certifications describe hardware

CE, FCC, RoHS and ISO manufacturing certifications concern electrical safety, emissions, restricted substances and quality systems. They are meaningful, and they are about the product as an appliance.

None of them is a medical approval, and no purity figure implies a health outcome. Our products are general wellness devices and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
