Oxidative stress
The most-cited line of research examines hydrogen's selective behaviour toward highly reactive oxygen species while leaving ordinary signalling molecules largely untouched. That selectivity is the reason the molecule attracted attention in the first place.
These are mechanistic findings from laboratory and small clinical work. They describe what has been measured under study conditions, not an outcome you should expect from a wellness routine.
Inflammation
A second body of work looks at inflammatory signalling markers before and after hydrogen exposure across a range of models and modalities. Sample sizes are typically small and endpoints differ between papers, so the picture is exploratory.
Mitochondria
Some studies focus on mitochondrial function and energy metabolism, since mitochondria are where much reactive oxygen species activity originates. Findings here are early and largely preclinical.
Longevity framing
Longevity language appears frequently in popular coverage and rarely in the underlying papers. We treat it as framing rather than a finding: the literature does not establish lifespan effects in humans, and we make no such claim.
