The term describes a delivery method, not a treatment
Hydrogen therapy is an informal umbrella phrase. It does not name a medical procedure and it does not describe a regulated category of device. What it actually refers to is the practice of exposing yourself to molecular hydrogen gas — H₂, the smallest and lightest molecule there is — as part of a general wellness routine.
Because the phrase is loose, most confusion in this market comes from people comparing very different things under one name. A hydrogen bath, a nasal cannula session and a bottle of hydrogen-rich water have almost nothing in common except the molecule involved. Reading any claim, the first question worth asking is: which modality, and produced how?
The three consumer modalities
Inhalation delivers hydrogen gas directly through a nasal cannula during a seated session, typically twenty to sixty minutes. The relevant specification is hydrogen flow rate in millilitres per minute, and the relevant question is whether that figure describes pure hydrogen or a hydrogen-oxygen mixture.
Hydrogen bathing dissolves hydrogen into bathwater so exposure is whole-body and passive for the length of the bath. The relevant specification is dissolved hydrogen concentration in the water, expressed in parts per billion, and how well it holds during a session.
Hydrogen-rich drinking water dissolves hydrogen into a smaller volume for consumption. Here the practical issue is that dissolved hydrogen escapes quickly once the water is open to air, which is why generation on demand matters more than storage.
Where the gas comes from
Every credible consumer system produces hydrogen by electrolysis: an electrical current splits water into hydrogen and oxygen. Nothing is added to the water chemically, and nothing needs to be replenished except the water itself.
The distinction that matters is the cell type. PEM/SPE cells use a solid polymer membrane and run on pure or distilled water, which allows the hydrogen stream to be separated from the oxygen stream and its purity characterised. Alkaline cells use a liquid caustic electrolyte and usually deliver an undifferentiated mixed gas.
What purity figures do and don't tell you
Purity describes the gas leaving the machine. It is a hardware and manufacturing property, verified by measurement, and it says nothing about health outcomes. Our inhalation systems have been independently purity-tested by a third-party laboratory (QTT reports LH2025050017 and LH2025050018).
Treat certification marks the same way. CE, FCC and RoHS marks describe electrical safety and materials compliance for the hardware. They are not medical approvals and no one should present them as such.
How people actually use it
In practice owners fold hydrogen into an existing routine rather than treating it as an event: a session while reading in the morning, or a hydrogen bath after a hard training day. Consistency is the pattern most people report caring about, which is why device noise, water handling and maintenance effort matter more than headline numbers.
